Our mission

We exist to ensure youth in foster care feel supported, seen, and set up for opportunity.

Terps Fostering Futures is a student-led nonprofit focused on mentorship, practical support, and advocacy that helps young people build confidence, connection, and long-term stability.

Why this matters

Every young person deserves a strong support system.

Youth in foster care often navigate major transitions with limited resources. Our mission is to close that gap through reliable relationships, educational support, and community-centered care.

How we serve

We combine mentorship, service, and advocacy.

From volunteer events and resource drives to awareness campaigns and peer support, we create consistent pathways for students and partners to show up in meaningful ways.

The numbers

Our mission is tied to the realities youth in foster care face every day.

These statistics show why consistent support, permanency, and educational pathways are critical for youth in foster care.

FAPAC event for foster youth

The challenge is real — and so is the need for support.

Youth in foster care often spend years navigating instability, and education remains one of the strongest pathways to opportunity. These statistics highlight why our work matters.

Education & College Attendance

Foster youth face significant barriers to higher education compared to their peers. Under 4% of former youth in foster care go on to earn a four-year college degree, and under 6% receive a two-year degree.

Poverty's Impact on Foster Care

Children living in poverty enter the foster care system at higher rates than children who are not in poverty. Poverty and neglect together have lasting negative effects on childhood development.
